Experience—if not reason itself—should call for caution in the face of the mounting declarations about a hypothetical recognition of a Palestinian state. It is a macabre dance of belated and likely hollow intentions, and we would be mistaken to confuse them with a last-minute moral awakening.
That Gaza has finally been "discovered" by the West is a diversion from the European disaster—Russia, Ukraine, the call to rearmament—that demands as well, albeit in vain, the lucid and courageous attention of all.
