Use and throw

In theatrical terms, on Friday at the White House President Zelensky was the protagonist of a tragic epiphany. He understood that the United States had thrown him away after using him, demonstrating all the cynicism of which a great power is capable. Europe is only pretending to be indignant, but it has understood the message.
It's not easy being Ukrainian President Zelensky.
On Friday at the White House he didn't just realise that Trump had dumped him. That, at the very most, could still be accepted.
He realised, through a sudden and tragic revelation, that he had been used by the previous administration, that of Joe Biden. The former president had taken into account Ukraine's sacrifice to satisfy his anti-Russian and, in particular, anti-Putin obsession.
The Russians started the war by invading Ukraine. However, the United States called it and ended up riding it like they'd been waiting for it to happen.
Zelensky was left empty-handed. After the collective drama at the White House, all Europe can offer him are words of astonished indignation, but it will never come to his aid manu militari. It tacitly considers negotiations with Russia inevitable. It only pretends to blush when it thinks about it.
