Dispatch from Gaza

This time, the news hits very close to home: a colleague and friend, whose voice has been bringing us the first months of war in Gaza for Faccia da Reporter, has suffered a devastating loss. Nael Ghaboun lost thirteen family members in the Israeli bombing of a house in Gaza City where they had sought shelter. The victims were his cousins. It happened on October 1, 2025.
Six bodies have been recovered so far; another six are still believed to be under the rubble.
Two videos capture the moments immediately after the strike: available on Instagram and Facebook.
Among the dead and survivors are mostly women and children. The men had left for the south of the Strip, searching for a place to bring their families.
Nael now lives abroad with his family. His reports from Gaza form the common thread of my book Gaza. Dispatches from the Forgotten Land, published by Redea Publishing in 2024.
