The protests in Iran show no sign of abating; if anything, they appear to be spreading. The country has been plunged into isolation by a telecommunications blackout. The ayatollahs’ regime is deploying force—lethal force included—in an attempt to smother the streets.
For what it is worth, Faccia da Reporter stands with the young people demanding freedom. And they are ready to pay its price.
Foreign interference? It exists, without doubt. That makes the situation acutely dangerous—and unpredictable. It would be a serious mistake, however, to believe that outside hands were the detonator, or that they supply the fuel for this new, determined uprising.
Recognising—and supporting—people’s longing for freedom cannot be governed by selective categories, as in: only when it suits.
